SATCOM Studio

SATCOM Center- at ANSSIRD
The SATCOM center at the SIRD has been fully funded and set up by the State government with technical assistance and support from ISRO. Today the SATCOM center is fully operational and is being sustained on a revenue model generating its own resources for the maintenance and running of the same. The center is well equipped with

  • A Bandwidth of 4.6 mbps provided by ISRO for education and rural development purposes

  • It comprises an earth station and a studio with all necessary infrastructure required for the smooth functioning of SATCOM programs.

  • Satellite support on extended C-Band Transponder of INSAT 3B (Ch 15)

  • Connected within the state with Receiving Stations located at:

  • 176 Taluk Panchayats.

  • 22 DTIs

  • 20 DIETs

  • Satcom studio provided with video/ audio equipment interfaced with earth station for transmission.

Studio
The Studio located at the main building of the SIRD at Mysore is the originator of the signals for transmission through the satellite. With a floor area of 22X40ft the studio is acoustically treated and equipped with state of the art facilities. It consists of a console, 18 professional sony and JVC monitors, two broadcast quality sony cameras, sony tabletop cameras, Sony beta VCRs, 22 channels of soundcraft audio mixers, JVC vision mixers, sony DFS700A special effect generator, scan converter, multimedia HCL PC, telephone hybrid Studer, videonics character generator, white board etc.
This apart the studio also has a provision to accommodate a small panel of experts and activists of local governance as panelists. The programs are telecasted live. Use of live demonstrations, panel discussions, pre recorded programs, graphics and animations, power point presentations and video films are used wherever and whenever required. It is also equipped with three telephone lines and a fax machine to receive queries from the remote receiving end class rooms.

Earth Station
The Earth Station has a dimension of 10X10ft and consists of a 7.5meter antenna, encoder, modulator, up convertor, power fire amplifier, decoder, spectrum analyzer, two monitors, computers etc. The earth station is capable of operating in extended C band transponder channel 15 of the INSAT 3B satellite. It receives the audio video signals from the studio. These combined signals are modulated, digitalized, amplified and transmitted to INSAT 3B. It also has the capability of downlink the signals from the satellite.

Receiving stations
There are 218 Receiving stations spread across the state and are located at the Taluka Panchayats and also the District Training institutes. They normally include a hall accommodating a minimum of 40 participants, a 29 inches of clour TV, 12ft parabolic dish antenna with reflector, coaxial cables, decoding receiving system,(DRS) an extended C-band LNBC and a Fax machine which sends questions and other information to the teaching end. The receiving stations are equipped with generators or UPS to ensure smooth broadcasting of the programs. Resource persons are available to facilitate the participants.
