As the core strengths of India and Indian democracy
lie in villages, decentralized development through
rural empowerment has always received top attention
in the country's planning processes. As a consequence
of this priority, the Abdul Nazir Sab State
Institute of Rural Development (ANSSIRD) came
into existance in 1989, with a mission to serve
the rural development functionaries of the state
of Karnataka.The institute commemorates Abdul
Nazir Sab (1932-88), one of the towering figures
in the history of India's Panchayat Raj movement.
Owing to strengths such as professional networking;
innovative capabilities to blend participatory
methodologies with communication technologies
for effective training; highly motivated staff;
and frontline infrastructure; the institute
is today a widely acknowledged name in the field
of training for empowerment of "bottom-up"
development.
